You see it more and more often: a sleek concrete look in someone’s bathroom. With concrete ciré, you can create a tile-free bathroom. Besides a sleek design, concrete ciré has several advantages that we would like to share with you.

What is concrete ciré?

Contrary to what the name suggests, concrete ciré is not real concrete. It is a mixture of water, cement and concrete. Originating in France, this concrete stucco has gained a lot of popularity in Dutch bathrooms in recent years.

Concrete ciré also contains a flexible resin, allowing it to adhere to almost any surface, which is handy!

It is important to note that if you want to use concrete ciré in the bathroom, it must be water-resistant. To make concrete ciré water-resistant, it needs to be coated with a thin layer of coating. If this is not done, your concrete ciré is not water-resistant and you will soon experience problems with the floor in the bathroom. This is also right away one of the biggest disadvantages of using this concrete look.

So what are the advantages of concrete cire?

  • Concrete cire has no joints like traditional tiles, so you create a sleek design and transform any bathroom into a beautiful space.
  • Concrete cire can be applied to almost any surface, which means you don’t have to carry out costly renovations to the bathroom floor before you can update your bathroom.
  • Another important advantage of concrete cire is its easy maintenance. Dirt will not get into the joints and almost all cleaning products are suitable for this floor.

Does concrete cire have any disadvantages?

  • Concrete cire is not a budget-friendly option for a bathroom floor. If you are looking for a flooring solution on a limited budget, concrete cire is probably not the best choice for you.
  • One disadvantage of concrete cire is its fragility. To keep it water-resistant, a thin layer of impregnation must be applied to the surface. If something sharp is dropped on the floor, the thin coating can be damaged, making the floor no longer water-resistant.

What is the maintenance for concrete cire?

Like any floor, concrete cire also needs some maintenance. The good news is that maintaining this floor is very easy and can be done by anyone. Vacuuming and mopping are highly recommended and will not cause any damage.

However, we would caution against using harsh detergents. These can damage or even partially dissolve the thin coating.
